Profile

Lucia Herbst, interpreter by vocation, translator by passion

My Background:

My family is bilingual (my father Italian and my mother German) and all my life I have lived alternately in Italy and Germany. I consider myself an ‘interpreter by vocation’ since, as a child, I translated for my grandparents and relatives – and I still do.

I followed my ‘vocation’ and in 1985 received by diploma as a conference interpreter from the Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori of Florence.

After a two-year course in law at the University of Florence, I moved to Germany. In 1990 I earned my degree in German- and English-language translation at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Faculty of Applied Linguistics – FASK Germersheim).

Since 1990 I have worked as a freelance translator and conference interpreter in international contexts.

Professional Associations:  Since 1990, I have been a member of the Associazione Italiana Traduttori e Interpreti AITI, the German professionals association Bundesverbands der Dolmetscher und Übersetzer BDÜ and of the Associazione Nazionale Interpreti di Conferenza Professionisti Assointerpreti.
